Whenever we watch a teen movie, it seems like some of the characters (mainly the popular girl who is a rival to the female lead) drive a brand-spanking new car – and it is usually an expensive sports model. We can assure you that this typically does not happen in real life. Most teenagers end up with Mom and Dad’s old and worn-out vehicle (which is usually a large, family-sized model). But is this really the best thing?
We were reading an article in the New York Times the other day where the writer was arguing that these large family vehicles (such as a minivan or full-sized SUV) are not exactly the best hand-me-downs to young and inexperienced drivers. Honestly, we have to agree. Teen drivers may have their license in hand, but expecting them to handle a giant Toyota Sequoia right away isn’t exactly the best idea.

These models are very easy to handle and offer great mileage – which is essential if they are planning to drive themselves to school and after-school activities.
